Admission to practise in Ireland
If you have been admitted to practise law in Australia you are eligible to apply to sit the The Qualified Lawyers Transfer Test (QLTT). This is a conversion Test which enables lawyers qualified in certain countries outside Ireland, to qualify as solicitors in the Republic of Ireland.
Before you can sit the QLTT you must first obtain a Certificate of Eligibility from the Law Society of Ireland.
Jurisdiction of Admission is the critical element when applying to take the QLTT regardless of the nationality of the applicant. If foreign nationals qualify within Australia - then on the basis of being admitted in that jurisdiction - they would be eligible to apply for the QLTT in Ireland. The procedure is the same for Irish nationals qualifying within Australia.
Full details are available on the Law Society of Ireland website. This site includes the forms you will need to apply and a booklet of information on the QLTT.
