Practical Legal Training Courses

Completing a course in Practical Legal Training is another way of becoming qualified to practise law in Victoria.  The courses are generally shorter than the Traineeship path and can be a very efficient way of fulfilling the requirements of admission.

There are two Practical Legal Training providers in Victoria - the Leo Cussen Institute and The College of Law. Upon completion of each of these courses you will be eligible to be admitted to practise in Victoria.

The courses vary in structure, length and cost. You will need to assess each course and decide which matches your needs best. The staff at the colleges are very helpful and willing to discuss your particular situation.

International students should note that there may be visa limitations if you choose an online course. In this case, it is recommended that you contact the colleges to discuss your options.

There are also interstate Practical Legal Training providers, such as ANU Legal Workshop.  Completion of these courses may allow you to practice in Victoria.  If you are considering an interstate provider it is advisable to check with the Law Institute of Victoria and the course management to ensure that you will be able to be admitted in Victoria.
