Information for Mentors
Thank you for considering becoming a mentor to a Melbourne Law School first year student.
This is an exciting initiative which will further strengthen the relationship between the Melbourne Law School and the profession. It will provide an opportunity for the mentors and their firms to develop a relationship with students at the moment they enter the legal world as a first year JD student.
The procedure for mentors is as follows:
- Mentors are encouraged to register all year-round. Accomplished professionals with three years or more post admission experience, are particularly encouraged to apply. You can do this by submitting the online form below.
- Mentors are matched to students on the basis of areas of interest and expertise. This is a manual procedure, managed by the Program Coordinator, to ensure suitable matches, and will occur in March.
- There will be a launch function in March or April.
- At your first meeting after the launch function, you will determine the objectives for the mentoring relationship and sign a mentoring agreement, which the student will return to the Law School. This details the mode and schedule for your meetings and is designed to ensure that you both have the same expectations of the arrangement. It is expected that as a mentor you would meet with your student 3-4 times between April and November.
- You will be contacted by the Mentor Program Coordinator in due course. Students are matched with mentors in March.
- For further information please refer to the mentor guidelines.
