Employers and the Careers Office

Melbourne Law School is in the unique position of having a Careers Office within the faculty.  This service provides our students with comprehensive career advice throughout their entire law degree and allows them to start planning their careers from the very beginning of their studies.

Having a Careers Office focussed specifically on law students allows for greater opportunities to forge links between employers and current students at an early stage in their studies.  It also provides an opportunity for innovative recruitment strategies to be developed with employers.

The Office is in regular contact with law firms and other employers, as well as the Law Institute of Victoria, to ensure that our students are armed with the requisite skills, experience, information and contacts to successfully make the transition from law school to legal practice.

In 2008 the Melbourne Law School became a fully graduate law school.  Our final intake of LLB students was in 2007 and we will continue to teach a full LLB program until those students graduate in 2012.

In 2008 the Law School also began to teach the new 3-year Juris Doctor (JD) program for graduates.  Further information about the JD is available from the JD website.  We are very happy to visit your firm to discuss the new JD program, and indeed, the LLB.  Please email the Careers Office on law.careers@unimelb.edu.au if you would like to arrange a meeting.

The Careers Office is keen to work with you to achieve your recruitment needs and to further the career development of our students.

Please feel free to contact us if you would like to become involved in any of our programs or to discuss recruitment issues.
