Careers Office Events
The Careers Office runs many careers seminars throughout the year. The seminars are usually run through lunchtime, however occasionally there will be evening events. Students are encouraged to attend these seminars as part of their career planning.
In semester 1 various international firms, including Linklaters, Clifford Chance, and Herbert Smith, visit the Law School to present information sessions regarding clerkships and traineeships in the United Kingdom. Australian firms also present information seminars during semester 1.
The annual Hong Kong Law Fair takes place in March or April and is organised specifically for law firms and educational providers based in Hong Kong to speak with penultimate and final year students wishing to further their legal studies in Hong Kong.
The Melbourne Law School Public Interest Law Fair was held for the first time in 2009. This event brings together organisations working in the public interest legal sector to discuss career opportunities with students.
The Guest Lecture Series is a weekly series of lunchtime seminars by eminent members of the law, political and the legal profession more broadly. Speakers address current legal and socio-cultural issues.
Career Pathways seminars are held in second semester. These focus on the many career options open to law graduates. The series includes legal and non-legal career opportunities. All speakers have a law degree and are drawn from a wide range of professions. They talk about the career path that has lead them to their current occupation.
The Preparing for Work seminars series help students develop the skills to successfully secure the graduate employment they want. The annual Traineeship Workshop is held after the exam period in second semester. This evening event brings together key members of the profession to provide students with valuable information for the traineeship application process.
